The Conundrum facing our current owners
Since 2008, Manchester City have invested vast sums of Money on squads of players, in the hope it would herald an era of National and European Domination. The return of paying hugely inflated wages, incredible transfer fees and no doubt a sizable increase in merchandising revenue is Two PL Titles, One FA Cup Trophy and One League Cup Trophy.

I would give my right arm to be saying we did that in the last seven years, but it looks like they are going to have to basically pick themselves up, dust themselves down and start all over again.

How much will they spend next time round? What if they don't make the Champions League Next Season?

We are on the cusp of a new era and it got me thinking. What would we have to spend to at least try and emulate What City have done over the last seven years and would a better choice of Manager needed less funds to win the same or possibly more,

Atletico Madrid in Spain are the poor relation of Barca and Real, yet they have beaten Real four times out of four this season. Proof enough that mega buck signings all over the park are not necessarily the way forward.

The dilemma facing G and S is a difficult one, what comes first? Is it offering a sizable war chest for the right Manager or is it get the right Manager in first then give him within reason, what he needs to move forward.

In other words, if we do interview for the Managers position, do we look for a Mourinho or a Guardiola who both have always had a vast pot of wonga to utilise, or do we try and tempt a Simeone type, who can do almost as much with less resources?

Athletico have won La Liga ten times, el copa del rey nine times in their history, not really comparable to us to be fair.

The only way we will get close to champions league football over next 10 years is if a billionaire takes over. The constant correlation in the league between top and bottom is higher wages/ tranfers at top and lower wages/ transfers at bottom.
Id recommend reading Soccernomics , very good read which goes into detail about topics like this.

To be fair, while Athletico have performed above their level, they are hardly poverty cases.

More the equivalent of an Arsenal or a Liverpool than us or Swansea. Liverpool showed you can beat the big boys (almost) with less money, but a team that just clicks and gets on a roll.

The only handicap is that eventually your best players will get cherrypicked by the top team eventually (see Suarez to Barca or all of Dortmund to Bayern)

I think we'd still need massive investment to be able to compete over the course of a season from the position we are in at the moment.

So, is it like WAR GAMES?

Loads of WYSE 85 terminals with green VDU displays all running on unix?

Whilst he nonchalantly strokes a white chinchilla jauntily laying on the armrest of his PROJECT executive office chair?

Fucking GREAT

There is a very complex algorithm used to calculate the password for each username.

Morley has a couple of desktops, and a few laptops rigged up so he can multipost at the same time.

That's how much of a pro he is at it.

Morley

Do you have the same password for each login, or just a different number at the end?

I'm just wondering how you log out and in between so many hundreds of accounts so quickly.

LEGEND.

There is no conundrum because of FPP. So that is really the end of the matter.

City are a poor example as they spent hundreds of millions on shit

Southampton show that you dont need to spend vast amounts for success

Re: The Conundrum facing our current owners
Well it looks like they are set for a major clear out at the end of the season and if they don't get CL football next season, they will have to do what they did in the beginning and that is pay over the odds wages to get big names in.

Re: The Conundrum facing our current owners
Atletico Madric do not prove anything other than every rule has its exceptions.

In 99% of cases the league positions and relevant success will be determined by the amount of money spent along with the squad value.

In this respect I would place west ham in the middle to bottom half of the table, as although we have spent a bit of money, our squad value is still comparitively low.
